Molecular:?Genotyped using 12 polymorphic enset SSR markers.?Sample Size:?79 cultivated landraces collected from different enset growing locations of Ethiopia.?Genetic Diversity:?Total of 77 alleles identified; average observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.51 to 0.67; mean gene diversity of 0.59 (range: 0.55?0.62).?Population Structure:?AMOVA revealed that within-population allelic variations contributed more to genetic diversity than among-population variations. DAPC and population structure analysis grouped the 83 enset germplasms (79 cultivated + 4 wild) into three major clusters.?Key Finding:?Vernacular names are good indicators of genetic distinctiveness; outcomes provide valuable information for enset conservation and breeding strategies especially for development of resistance to bacterial wilt and nematode attacks. |
